No pictures today - mostly just a long drive from Placerville to Lassen Volcano National Park. I made an afternoon stop to stretch - OK OK, I'll confess, I stopped in Chico and caught a matinee of Star Wars Episode II. Still haven't seen Spiderman.
I got to Lassen Park about 6:30 PM and pulled into the campground. There were maybe 15 or 20 people camped there. There was 3 feet of snow on the ground (elevation was about 6700 feet) and everyone else was dressed up in arctic gear. I stepped out of the Trooper wearing cargo shorts and a tank top, and got a few interested looks.
I changed quickly.
Since I didn't want to camp on the snow, I set up the tent in the parking lot like some others did. That's the nice thing about a dome tent, you don't really need to stake it down (unless the winds are really high).
It was cold and damp outside, but the restrooms were heated. I briefly considered setting up my cot in the mens room and sleeping in there, but decided against that - it went against the flavor of the site.
